Airspan acquires Cambium fixed wireless lines & staff

Airspan has acquired several fixed wireless product lines from Cambium Networks, along with more than 135 Cambium employees.

The assets include the PMP 450 point-to-multipoint access platform, the PTP 670 unlicensed point-to-point backhaul product, the PTP 700 system for defence applications, the cnWave millimetre wave range and the cnReach narrowband communications line.

The transaction also includes management and planning software used with those products, including LINKPlanner, cnHeat and cnMaestro. Financial terms were not disclosed.

The purchase expands Airspan's presence in fixed wireless products used by service providers, defence organisations and critical communications customers. It adds point-to-point and point-to-multipoint equipment to a business whose existing portfolio includes 4G and 5G network products.

Employees moving to Airspan include sales and support teams in the United States, Europe, Asia-Pacific and Africa, as well as research and development teams in the United States, the United Kingdom and India.

The deal marks another acquisition for Airspan as it broadens its wireless networking business, following its earlier integrations of wireless operations acquired from Corning and Jabil.

Glenn Laxdal, chief executive officer of Airspan, outlined the rationale for the purchase in a statement.

“Cambium's point-to-point and point-to-multipoint products are a compelling addition to Airspan's 4G and 5G wireless network solutions for service providers, defense, and critical communications,” said Glenn Laxdal, chief executive officer of Airspan.

He also addressed customer support and the integration of the business.

“We are fully committed to supporting the customers and partners who have invested in these products. Our successful integration of recent acquisitions, including Corning's and Jabil's wireless businesses, demonstrates our ability to effectively integrate acquired teams and products, and provide business continuity, operational excellence, and innovation to customers. We will bring the same focus to this acquisition,” Laxdal said.

Revenue growth

Airspan entered the transaction with rising revenue and profitability. In the first half of 2026, it reported revenue of USD $70 million, up 112% from a year earlier.

For the 12 months to June 2026, Airspan reported revenue of USD $152 million and said the period also showed strong profitability.

The acquisition gives Airspan a broader product base across several specialist wireless segments. Alongside in-building public and private 5G systems, it also operates in air-to-ground communications and wider-area network coverage for service providers.

For Cambium, the sale removes a set of fixed wireless lines that had served operators, industrial users and government-related applications. For Airspan, it adds established products and the teams that support them across sales, customer service and engineering.

Portfolio shift

The product set spans licensed and unlicensed wireless links, millimetre wave systems and industrial narrowband communications. These technologies are used in network backhaul, fixed access and communications in remote or demanding operating environments.

By taking on the associated software tools, Airspan is also assuming parts of the planning and network management layer around the hardware portfolio. That could help preserve continuity for existing customers using those systems to design, deploy and monitor their networks.

The addition of employees across four regions suggests the transaction is intended to keep commercial and technical support close to existing customers. Engineering staff in three countries are part of the handover, giving Airspan development resources tied directly to the acquired product families.

Airspan said it plans to use its current financial position to support investment in the newly acquired products, customers and teams. More than 135 Cambium employees joined Airspan as part of the transaction.
