BMX launches pixel-led GaN chargers for travellers

Better Mobile Xperience has launched its GaNsta Pixel charger range, with 100W and 140W models aimed at users charging several devices at once.

The Singapore-based mobile power company said the chargers combine gallium nitride technology with a pixel LED display showing live charging information. They are available through the company's website and Amazon UK, with US marketplace availability to follow.

Both models measure 62 x 65 x 35.9mm and weigh 259g. According to BMX, the 140W version is 43% smaller than the charger supplied with a MacBook Pro, while the 100W version is 37% smaller than the charger supplied with a MacBook Air or a 96W-class laptop charger.

The range is positioned around portability and visibility. Unlike conventional chargers, which typically provide no direct feedback, the GaNsta Pixel units include a small display that cycles through readouts for individual USB ports and total power output.

The display shows C1, C2, C3, A1 and TTL views, indicating live wattage by port and total output while devices charge. BMX said the chargers also use pixel-style animations to indicate charging, standby and fault states.

Ports and output

Each charger has three USB-C ports and one USB-A port. On the 140W model, the two main USB-C ports can each provide up to 140W, while the third USB-C port supports up to 65W and the USB-A port up to 22.5W.

On the 100W model, the two main USB-C ports can each provide up to 100W. The third USB-C port and USB-A port match the 140W version at 65W and 22.5W respectively.

BMX said the 140W charger supports PD 3.1 EPR and 28V on its primary USB-C ports, while the 100W model supports PD 3.0 and 20V on the equivalent ports. The 140W version is intended for MacBook Pro charging, while the lower-powered model is aimed at smaller laptops, tablets, phones and other personal devices.

Power output changes when several devices are connected at the same time. According to the published specifications, the 140W model can deliver up to 65W, 45W, 7.5W and 7.5W across all four ports, while the 100W model can deliver up to 45W, 30W, 7.5W and 7.5W in the same scenario.

Travel focus

The bundle includes a foldable US plug, plus EU, UK and AU adapters. BMX is also shipping the products with a 1m braided USB-C cable, a suede travel pouch and a user guide.

The company said it designed the range for commuters, travellers and professionals carrying several devices in a single bag. This reflects a wider consumer electronics trend towards consolidated charging accessories, as users increasingly rely on a single charger for laptops, phones, tablets and audio devices.

Both products include overvoltage, overcurrent and overpower protection, along with electrostatic protection, fire-resistant housing and temperature management, according to BMX. The company also said the GaN chipset used in the chargers had been tested across more than 17 billion hours, with fewer than one failure per billion.

The range comes in grey, blue and orange. Pricing is set at USD $89.99 and GBP £99.99 for the 140W model, and USD $79.99 and GBP £79.99 for the 100W version.

Barry Miller, Head of Marketing at BMX, outlined the company's pitch for the devices.

"We think travelers are going to love seeing 140W laptop power, four ports, and global adapters in a charger that fits in the palm of their hand. Pixel shows the wattage as it charges, and it finally gives people a charger that can stand out and fit their style," said Miller.
